Copyright - Using material

You generally do not need to get permission for the following

  • ·If an item is solely your own work, or work from your department you do not need to worry about obtaining copyright permission, but it needs to be clearly referenced that the item belongs to your workplace (or you if you are not employed).
  • If you have a link to another website. You are not copying the information just providing a link. This is very beneficial for use in Wiki’s and Websites so you know that the students are accessing the correct item. You still should acknowledge the work, stating the website that you will be sending the students to.
  • Embedding. Embedding is another form of linking, but instead of linking to a whole page, you are just linking to a video. Example embedding a You Tube link. Suitable referencing of the material is still needed.
  • Free for education and open education resources. Some people have already stated that their information or website is free for teachers and students to use the information. Referencing is still needed.
